wind electric articles and products to help you on your way
to success.
WIND ELECTRIC
The production of electricity by wind generation is cost effective and part of the government’s strategy to produce more power from renewable sources.
Wind electric gives you the chance to produce electricity for your own use and you may even be able to sell surplus supplies back to the grid. Production in excess of 5000kWh per year is necessary to supply back to the grid and this involves having a meter fitted. There is a charge to read it but this is easily offset against the income from your supply.
A small 1.5Kw turbine can produce 3942kWh of power, a 5Kw 13140kWh and a 15Kw 39420kWh. An invertor is required to convert your supply to 230V AC.
Your wind generator will produce electricity even if the wind speed drops to 2.5m/s, but below this level there will be no production and you will need to use a back up system in the form of a generator or battery power unless of course you are connected to the grid in which case you can draw your supply from there.
In the event of a power cut the supply needs to be disconnected for safety reasons e.g.: engineers working on the lines. This ensures no power is fed into the grid.
